Item 1: Cabinet photograph on cardstock mount that shows Hunkpapa Lakota leader Sitting Bull (c.1830s-1890) in an interior setting. He wears traditional clothing with a single feather on his head and holds a pipe in his right hand. Text caption that misidentifies sitter as Rain in the Face has been crossed out, with “Sitting Bull” written in ink above. Published by D.F. Barry, Bismarck, [North] Dakota, with copyright info along lower edge of card. 6 1/2 in. H x 4 1/4 in. W. 1885. Item 2: Cabinet photograph on cardstock that shows Sitting Bull’s nephew, One Bull, with a pipe held in his lap. Published by Bailey, Dix & Mead, Fort Randall, Dakota Territory, with copyright info along lower edge of card. 6 1/2 in. H x 4 1/4 in. W. 1882.
CONDITION: Both photographs in overall very good condition. Sitting Bull photograph with minor spatter primarily to upper left, outside of figure. Sitting Bull card with grime, fingerprints, and areas of thinning and minor abrasions, especially to lower right corner.
