Item 1: Sebastian Munster (German/Swiss, 1488-1552) Jerusalem cityscape woodcut from the French edition of Cosmographia. Originally published in Basel, 1552. Jerusalem (shown as a Turkish colony with mosques topped with crescent moons) is depicted above descriptive text in French text headed “Jericho.” 16th c. Housed under glass in a giltwood frame with cream mat and black reveal. Sight: 10 1/2 in. H x 15 1/4 in. W. Frame: 20 in. H x 24 1/4 in. W. Item 2: Willem Blaeu (Dutch, 1571-1638) Holy Land Palestine, engraving from Atlas Novus, c. 1629. Engraved by Jodocus Hondius the Younger and first published in Amsterdam, 1635. The map is oriented with west at top and includes various seas and landmarks along with imagined sea monsters. Housed under glass in a giltwood frame with gray mat. Sight: 17 in. H x 21 1/2 in. W. Frame: 24 3/8 in. H x 28 5/8 in. W.
CONDITION:
Both items in overall very good condition. 1st item with minor, marginal adhesive stain along left edge of right-hand sheet. 2nd item with adhesive staining to seam area. Not examined out of frames.
