1ST ITEM: 44 star American national flag, machine sewn. Approximate size: 3'10" x 6'8". Circa 1895. Provenance: ex-Henry Fredette collection. 2ND ITEM: Printed cotton parade flag, 39 stars. Size: approximately 30" x 40". Note: there never was an official 39-star U.S. flag. This 39-star flag was made in anticipation of the admission of the Dakota Territory as a single state following Colorado's admission in 1876 as the 38th state. However, both Dakotas, Montana and Washington were made into states in November, 1889 and Idaho was admitted July 3, 1890. Provenance: Estate of A. Welling LaGrone, Jr., Nashville, Tenn. Condition: 1ST ITEM: Scattered holes. 2ND ITEM: Minor stains.
