Large Continental Trumeau or overmantel mirror, the upper section with a blue and white oil on canvas landscape scene depicting the Greek god Hermes seated beneath a tree with two female attendants and a cherub; the lower section fitted with a rectangular mirror. Both sections mounted into a large off-white-painted wood support having gilt accents, including cornice; molded liners; and carved garlands, torchieres, and urns to each side. Painting sight: 20" H x 26 3/4" W. Mirror sight: 32 1/4" H x 27" W. Overall: 71" H x 43" W. Late 19th century.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Pia Stratton, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Overall good condition with age related wear and scattered minor losses. Painting with light grime; mirror with some desilvering.
