19th century gilt lacquer ladies work box, filled with ivory needlework implements. Octagonal form box raised on gilt feet, decorated with Chinoiserie designs of figures, landscapes and florals, including a tea ceremony depicted on the top panel. Hinged lid opens to reveal 28 ivory sewing implements in an ivory fitted interior, including two lift top compartments also decorated with Chinoiserie designs. Ivory implements include thimble, thread holders, bobbins, and clamps, many with intricate carving. A drawer below is fitted for inkwells and has a surface that can lift up for writing or painting. Two brass side handles. 6"H x 14"W x 11"D. Probably Chinese, 19th century.
