Photographic print of the 1919 dedication of a monument marking the supposed grave of first North Carolina governor Richard Caswell in Lenoir County (the exact location of his grave continues to this day to be the subject of some mystery). Pencil inscription en verso notes that shown in the photo is the flag of the N.C. militia reputed to have been flown at the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, March 15, 1781. Mounted on cardstock with decorative border, unframed. Provenance: Estate of A. Welling LaGrone Jr., Nashville. Picture: 7 3/4" H x 9 5/8" W. Overall 12" H x 14" W. Condition: Some foxing or black specks to upper right hand corner and to margin, scattered light grime.
