Charles Romain Cappellaro (France, 1826-1899) bronze bust sculpture of Allan Kardec, the pseudonym used by French author Hippolyte Leon Denizard Rivail known as the father of Spiritism, a philosophical and religious doctrine of the 19th century, with the sitter's name engraved to front of base. Signed and dated "Capellaro, 1870" on right side of base. 7" H x 5 1/4" W x 3 3/4" D. Provenance: The collection of Dr. Andrew Wilkerson, by descent from the estate of Vernon and Vicki Meche, Iron City, Tennessee. Note: This work originally belonged to the French writer and mysticist Mr. J. Camille Chaigneau. It descended to Chaigneau's granddaughter, Vicki Rideaux Meche.
CONDITION: Overall good condition with expected patination to base, face, and top of head.
