Giovanni Antonio Canal, commonly known as Canaletto (Italian, 1697-1768), "La Torre de Malghera," etching on laid paper depicting the Tower of Malghera near Venice with gondoliers docked on shore and preparing their boats for travel. Inscribed and titled lower margin "A. Canal f., La Torre de Malghera., E4". Label en verso for Kennedy Galleries, NY. Housed in a giltwood frame with a linen mat. Sheet: 19" W x 13 1/4" H. Sight: 17" W x 12" H. Framed: 24 1/2" W x 21" H. Note: other examples depicting this important but no longer extant tower are in the collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Minneapolis Museum of Art, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Raymond White, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Overall good condition with repaired tear lower left corner, some creasing and light discoloration and toning.
