Regency japanned settee and two chairs, black painted wood with gilt highlights, with caned seats (also included are custom contemporary yellow upholstered cushions). Seat backs feature ball and turned spindles centered by tablets, each decorated with scenes of Chinese figures in landscapes, and divided by square tapered and curved uprights painted in a fret design. Round tapered legs with ring turnings. Settee: 35"H x 70-1/2" W x 27"D. Chair: 35-3/8" H x 22"W x 21"D. Probably English, early 19th century. Provenance: The estate of Margaret Wemyss Connor, Nashville Tennessee; purchased in the 1960s from Jeanette Marks of Lexington, Kentucky. Condition: Most if not all paint appears to be original. Significant wear / paint loss and fading on the backs, moderate wear to fronts, particularly on armrests. Seats need recaning.
