Chinoiserie tall case clock with gilt lacquered decoration on a red painted ground, oak and pine secondary woods. Arched crest with round columns flanking an engraved brass dial with silvered medallion engraved C. Ward Diss. and a silvered chapter ring and seconds dial ring, with applied pierced foliate spandrel decorations. Waist door with iron strap hinges to door (visible only from interior). Lower section with serpentine carving at base. Brass 8 day time and strike movement. Iron backplate is stamped WRIGHT. 86" H x 17 3/8" W x 9" D. British, 19th century.
CONDITION: The clock case originally had a molded section surmounting the crest which has been lost. Otherwise overall good condition with several areas of age related shrinkage, most notably in horizontal cracks to base section. A few losses up to 1" to decoration on base section. Cracking to upper area of back board. Repair to upper right corner of pediment. Part of one strap hinge is missing. Movement has not been checked and is not guaranteed to be in working condition. Lacking weights.
