Two (2) Continental Majolica or Faience Apothecary jars, likely Italian, possibly Castelli, 16th or 17th century, each featuring polychrome decoration on a ceramic earthenware body The larger jar or vase with bulbous upper body decorated with cherub in cartouche, tapering to a round base,11 3/4″H; the smaller Albarello jar having leaf and scroll decoration and measuring 9 3/4″H.
PROVENANCE: A Middle Tennessee estate.
CONDITION: Overall good condition. The larger jar with glaze losses around foot/base, fine crazing to glaze and small chips to body and rim up to 1/4″L. Smaller jar: wear to rim, wear and small minor chips to foot ring, glaze pops up to 1″L to body along with fine crazing to glaze.
