Arnold Marc Gorter (Netherlands, 1866-1933) oil on canvas impressionistic landscape painting depicting a river with a man rowing a boat surrounded by trees and autumn foliage overhead with cows grazing in a bright green pasture in the background. Signed "A M Gorter" lower left. Housed in a molded giltwood frame with carved corner decoration. Sight: 14 3/4" H x 19 3/4" W. Frame: 21" H x 25 3/4" W. Artist Biography: Arnold Marc Gorter was a student of the National Academy in Amsterdam, but traveled to Germany and France to paint, finding great success. He painted vast landscapes in the manner of the French Barbizon School, many of which were accepted into French annual Salons (adapted courtesy of askArt).
PROVENANCE: Private Nashville, Tennessee estate.
CONDITION: Overall good condition with grime and light craquelure. Painting has been conserved by Cumberland Art Conservation in Nashville, TN in 1998, was varnished with Acryloid B-72, information about conservation en verso. Contemporary frame.
