George III Adam style giltwood (gesso on pine) mirror. Vertically oriented rectangular looking glass with a crest of carved Prince of Wales feathers over a pierced ribbon and foliate swag carved crest, the sides adorned with cascading husks; the design repeats as a drop from the bottom. Remnant of old gallery label en verso (gallery name not visible). 45" x 22" overall. English, circa 1780. Provenance: the estate of Margaret Wemyss Connor, Nashville, Tennessee. Condition: Some losses and replacements to side swags, a few missing/detached husks, scattered abrasions, areas of refreshed gilding. Mirror glass replaced. Number of husks detached but retained: 6.
