Sam Richards (Delaware/Kentucky, 1946-1994), "Mallia II," c. 1983, abstract steel sculpture comprising pieces of curved metal in various lengths and thicknesses, and a single axe head. Unsigned. 45 1/2" H x 53" W x 43" D. Biography: Sam Richards was born in Wilmington, Delaware in 1946. He attended the University of Delaware, Skowhegan School in Maine, Tyler School of Art's Rome program, and later earned his M.F.A. at Indiana University. Richards spent time in the Northeast before moving to teach at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. Soon after, he moved to Louisville, Kentucky where he taught at the University of Louisville. (adapted from the artist's website samrichardsart.com)
PROVENANCE: Deaccessioned from the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art.
CONDITION: Overall good condition. Scattered oxidation/wear throughout with rust, some scratching. Some remaining gun blue to surface.
