Two (2) Russian Orthodox or Russian style religious icons. 1st item: Russian gilt brass relief decorated oklad panel over oil on board painting of Christ, holding a Bible in his left hand with his right hand in a sign of benediction. Housed in a gilt molded frame inside a wooden shadow box with line inlay. Sight: 6 5/8" H x 5 1/4" W. Framed: 9 1/2" H x 8 1/4" W x 2 1/2" D. 2nd item: Russian style icon, possibly Polish, embossed relief silverplated oklad with enamel, over wood painting depicting the Madonna and child. Titled in lower margin, no visible hallmarks. Mounted onto a felt covered backing. 12 1/2" H x 11" W x 1" D. Both items Late 19th/Early 20th century.
PROVENANCE: The collection of Dr. Andrew Wilkerson, by descent from the estate of Vernon and Vicki Meche, Iron City, Tennessee.
CONDITION: 1st item: Overall craquelure and some minor abrasions. Some oxidation to brass panel and losses to gilt frame. Shadow box with wear and some losses to inlay. 2nd item: Overall wear and tarnish to silver-plate panel, some losses to enamel decoration.
