Juliette Marie Desport (Kentucky, 1895-1970) pastel on paper painting, titled lower left "Boxwood at the Old Stone Steps, Cheekwood, Nashville Tenn." Signed lower right and dated 1943. 8-1/2" x 11-1/2" sight, 16" x 20" framed. En verso is another pastel sketch, this one of a child's feet resting on a stone beside a fence, signed lower left and dated Jan 42. Framed in a stained wood frame with double sided glass. Note: Desport studied at Belmont College and Watkins Institute in Nashville and at Cooper Union Art School in New York with Apheus Cole. Her work was featured in the 2001 exhibit of Kentucky Women Artists at the Owensboro Museum of Fine Arts. Source: Kentucky Women Artists: 1850-1970. Condition: Painting has slipped slightly in the frame, light toning, scattered foxing mainly affecting margins.
