Oil on board painting of Annie Red Shirt of the American Indian Oglala Lakota Tribe, depicted standing with her arm on a blanket-covered table, wearing a finely beaded leather coat and holding a bow and arrows. After Frank A. Rinehart’s (1861-1928) 1898 photograph. Titled “Annie Redshirt” and signed “Alice White Holcomb,” lower right. Housed in a giltwood frame with interlocking geometric detailing. Sight: 19 in. H x 15 in. W. 27 in. H x 23 in. W. Circa 1900. Annie Redshirt was the daughter of Chief Red Shirt, the noted Sioux War leader, delegate to Washington in 1880, and later, celebrity associated with the Buffalo Bill Wild West Show. This portrait, on a Devoe-labled artist board, was painted after the 1898 photograph of Annie Red Shirt by Frank A. Rinehart, which was released as a postcard by 1905.

CONDITION:
Painting: A few minor scattered spots of wear and retouch visible under UV light, most notably to the left eye, 3/4 inch x 1/4 inch, plus minor frame abrasions. Wear and some small scattered surface losses to frame.
