Henry Carter Johnson (American, 1908-1996) WPA era oil on canvas landscape painting depicting a farm scene with chickens in the foreground and a figure working on a porch in the middle ground, a yellow sky with sun above. Signed and dated "1935 Carter Johnson," lower left. Housed in a painted frame with gilt trim. Sight: 21 3/4" H x 23 3/4" W. Framed: 30 1/2" H x 32 1/2" W. Note: Henry Carter Johnson worked in the WPA's Federal Art Project in the 1930s. He later served in World War II and went on to become a well known photographer and glass artist in Michigan. His painting, "Winter Landscape, 1939" is in the collection of the Smithsonian Museum. Source: The Henry Ford Museum.

CONDITION: Overall good condition. 3" x 5 1/4" repair with corresponding inpainting, visible top center en verso.
