Despite a lack of formal art training, Sheldon Moldoff became a prolific cover artist for the future DC comics. He co-created characters such as Batman’s Poison Ivy, Bat-Girl, and Mr. Freeze, and was sole creator of the Black Pirate. He began drawing for Moon Girl upon his return from World War II in the mid 1940s. After being let go by DC in 1967, he turned to animation and promotional comics.
