Illustrated by Hans Richard Von Volkmann (1860-1927) and printed in Leipzig, Germany by Breitkoph & Hertel, 1895. Illustrated title page with contents in English, German and French. Twelve full-page chromolithographic plates depicting stereotypical images of African natives, animals and white explorers. Original cloth-backed pictorial paper-covered boards with with plain jacket and folio folding cover with cloth tie. 15 1/2" H x 10 1/2" W. Condition: Some interior foxing to margins of plates. Colors of plates remain bright. Some toning covers and dust pages. Slight loss to upper spine of cover boards with overall general wear to cover boards.
