Five (5) Egyptian Revival style desk accessories. 1st-2nd items: Two (2) gilt bronze candleholders, each modeled in the form of a winged couchant sphinx on rectangular bases, the bobeches with stylized Ureaus symbols surmounting the Nemes crowns. Unmarked. 9 1/2" H x 4 5/8" W x 9 1/4" D. 3rd item: Bradley & Hubbard Manufacturing Company, Meriden, CT, cast iron bas relief bookend, pylon-form with a sun-disk, top center, above the profile of a couchant sphinx, center front, flanked by flowering lotus stalks, left and right. "B & H" foundry mark, lower right, museum accession number, lower center, en verso. 4 3/4" H x 4 3/4" W x 2 3/4" D. 4th-5th items: Two (2) Art Deco paperweights, having cast bronze couchant sphinx figures mounted atop mosaic-tiled surfaces, surmounting two-tiered black painted wooden bases. Unmarked. Museum accession numbers to back of base. 4 5/8" H x 4 3/4" W x 7" D. All items first half 20th century.
PROVENANCE: The collection of a Tennessee institution.
CONDITION: All items in overall good condition with light surface wear. 3rd item: Traces of paint to relief areas. 4th-5th items: 1/8" hole, possibly in the making, to back left haunch of one sphinx.
