Archaistic pottery censer in the Chinese Song/Yuan style, cylindrical form with tripod base, deep green iridescent glaze and incised decoration to the body including unusual arched windows with characters along with additional auspicious symbol and geometric elements. Fitted with a conforming carved wood cover having jui-head decoration and carved blue lace quartz berry finial and a fitted hardwood stand. 9 1/2" H (with lid and without stand) x 9" dia. 19th century.
PROVENANCE: The collection of a Tennessee institution.
CONDITION: Old loss to foot with hardwood stand constructed to accomodate this loss. Hairline emanating from rim down into the body with spidering. One area of loss to body. Minor splitting to wood of lid. Early 20th century damage label affixed to body.
