Middle Tennessee pottery jar with buff stoneware body and dark slip glaze interior. Incised "6" denoting gallon capacity. Attributed to the Lafever pottery of Middle Tennessee. For similar jars with similar gallon capacity script refer to page 80, figure 15 of "A Survey of Historic Pottery Making In Tennessee 1979", Division of Archaeology, Tennessee Department of Conservation.18 1/2" H. Late 19th century. Note: A similar Lafever pottery jar sold in our April 19th, 2008 auction (Lot #75). Condition: Some glaze slip stains/drips to exterior. Spider hairline crack to body near one handle.
