Forty-six (46) pieces of Danish Anton Michelsen "Jul/Julen" or Christmas sterling silver gilt flatware. Includes twenty-three (23) spoon and fork pairs with matching designs from their year of production. Designs vary, many including enamel, figural, or crest decoration, all thematic to the Christmas season. Majority of sets are marked "Jul" or "Julen" with their year of production. All marked "A. Michelsen. Copenhagen" and "Sterling. Denmark." followed by a trademark symbol. Some with assorted hallmarks. Thirty Three (33) pieces maintain original plastic packaging, eight (8) pieces are still sealed. All pieces range from 6" L to 6 1/4" L. Ranging in dates from 1910-1939. 69.420 total troy ounces. Provenance: The collection of Gary Glesser of Loudon, Tennessee, by descent from his grandparents, Captain Hoyt and Rachel Holton of Toledo, Ohio. Hoyt Holton became, at age 17, the youngest captain of a Great Lakes Freighter. In the 1960s, Captain Holton participated in a 26-day Admiral Byrd Society trip replicating the explorer's famous transpolar expedition, during which he met the Pope and Soviet Premier Nikita Kruschev. Many items in the collection were brought back as souvenirs from that journey and other frequent voyages.
