Two (2) Ruth Bernice Anderson (American, Indiana 1914-2002) oil on board Impressionist style paintings. 1st item: Streetscape depicting a rainy spring day, with several pedestrians holding umbrellas and walking past a cathedral, all rendered in a delicate impasto creating the impression of rain and mist. Signed "R. Anderson" lower right. A second possible signature en verso in pencil, with possible date 11-77. Blue-green painted frame with silver-gilt edges and beige linen liner. Sight: 16" H x 20" W. Framed: 24" H x 28" W. 2nd item: Painting depicting a couple walking together under a green umbrella on a rainy day. Signed "R. Anderson" lower left. Artist studio address label and possible date 5-75, en verso. Giltwood molded frame with white painted linen liner. Sight: 9 12" H x 7 1/2"W. Frame: 14" H x 12" W. Biography: Ruth Anderson studied at the John Herron School of Art under Clifton Wheeler and Gerry Pierce. She is best known for her still lifes, landscapes, and Indianapolis street scenes. She exhibited at the Indiana Art Club, the Tucson Fine Arts Association and at the Hoosier Salon between 1944-1986, winning prizes in 1960, 61, 69, 73, and 76.
PROVENANCE: A Middle Tennessee estate.
CONDITION: Both paintings in excellent condition. Larger frame has some wear and errant paint drips. Smaller frame has some scattered abrasions.
