Lot of 10 East Tennessee Civil War-related letters and documents. 1ST ITEM – Letter penned by 1st Lieutenant William Shepherd, 5th East TN Calvary, dated July 24th, 1863 while stationed at Camp Nelson in Kentucky, to Samuel L. Moore, who waspart of Col. J. H. Lane's regiment. In this letter to his friend, he discusses how he wished he had joined Col. Lane's regiment with him and also the various sicknesses he has endured since they last communicated. Lt. Shepard's unit saw action atCumberland Gap and several other areas around northeastern Tennessee. He later married Elizabeth Beckner (this letter descended in her family). Condition – Overall very good condition with some yellowing to folds and some slightlosses to folded corners. 2ND ITEM – Love letter written by 1st Lieutenant, Samuel.L Moore who was a part of Col. J. H. Lane's regiment, to his sweetheart Nancie J. McCullough, whom subsequently became his wife. In the letter, he is declaringhis affection for Ms. McCullough and asking her to write him c/o Robert Johnson, who was the commander of First Tennessee Cavalry. Written on striking patriotic stationary. Condition – Very good, overall yellowing, fold lines. 3RD – 10TH
