Two (2) American 20th Century Paintings, including a Varaldo Cariani landscape and Joseph Mason Reeves still life. 1st item: Varaldo Guiseppe (Cari) Cariani (Indiana/Italy, 1891-1969) oil on board impressionistic landscape painting titled "Bass Rocks" depicting a rocky coastline. Signature is not visible, possibly signed under frame. Gilt metal placard with artist's name and title, affixed lower center of frame. Ink inscriptions reading "Carini" with additional numbers, shipping label, and partial retail sticker, en verso. Housed in a silver gilt frame with linen rabbet edge. Sight – 9 1/2" H x 13 3/8" W. Framed – 16 1/8" H x 20 1/8" W. American, early/mid 20th century. 2nd item: Joseph Mason Reeves, Jr. (American, 1898-1973) oil on canvasboard still life painting depicting green grapes in a blue floral-decorated bowl, set against a plain background. Signed with initals "JMR" lower right. Pen inscription reads "Joseph Mason Reeves Jr." en verso. Housed in a speckled giltwood frame. Sight – 7 3/8" H x 9 1/4" W. Framed – 11" H x 13" W. American, mid 20th century. Provenance: a Nashville, Tennessee estate. CONDITION: 1st item: Overall good condition with some surface grime, slight loss, top left, minute black mark, top right of board. Areas of loss to frame. 2nd item: Painting very good condition. Frame likely older than the painting, with some restoration to edges.
