American Classical rosewood jewelry or vanity box, white pine secondary, casket form with ogee base, painted escutcheons, and gilt highlights accents. Lid with gilt foliate cartouche opens to reveal inset mirror and a red jacquard satin-lined, compartmentalized interior. The lower section with single dovetailed drawer having red jacquard satin lining, all resting on gilt metal paw bracket feet. 8 1/8" H x 14 1/4" W x 11" D. 19th century.
PROVENANCE: Private Urbana, Illinois collection.
CONDITION: Scattered minor wear to veneer commensurate with age. Two small areas of repair to veneer, largest measuring 1/2" x 7/8". Minor wear to satin lining commensurate with manner of use. Mirror possibly a later addition. Does not retain key.
