Southwest Virginia cobalt decorated stoneware jar stamped "J.B. Magee" (J.B. Magee, Washington Co., VA). Cobalt decoration of two flowers each side, with cobalt over the gallon capacity "4" and the stamp. For an example of Magee pottery, refer to "Great Road Style: The Decorative Arts Legacy of Southwest Virginia & Northeast Tennessee", Betsy K. White, University of Virginia, p. 144. 14 7/8" height. Late 19th century. Condition: Minor chips to rim with tight hairline crack to base.
