Antique needlework band or marking sampler, vertical orientation with openwork embroidered border enclosing rows of upper and lowercase alphabets and numbers. Although simple in overall presentation, a variety of stitches are represented, particularly in the lines dividing the rows of alphabets. Mid 19th century. 17" x 12". Provenance: the estate of Margaret Wemyss Connor, Nashville, Tennessee, and descended in the Wemyss family, living in Alabama about the time this sampler was made. Condition: Unfinished and unframed. Light overall discoloration and a few small stains.
