Pre-Raphaelite style oil on board painting depicting a young mother in a blue dress with a lace shawl gazing at an infant in her arms; there is a thick orchard grove in the background, rendered with a delicate impasto. Housed in a contemporary giltwood frame. Sight: 23 1/8" H x 18 5/8" W. Framed: 31" H x 26" W. Probably English, early 20th century.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Pia Stratton, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Minute surface grime. Minute scattered dark marks to female figure and infant's hair. Scattered shrinkage cracks to board commensurate with age.
