Newcomb College Art Pottery Lidded Jar, decorated by Anna Frances Simpson, with a landscape of live oak trees; the lid modeled with the stylized date 1914 along with acorns and oak leaves, and Latin motto inscription under the lid, FORTIER ET RECTE (“Bravely and Correctly”). Matte glaze with blue, green and yellow underglaze. Base marked with Newcomb cipher, decorator’s mark, reg. no. HF20 for the year 1915, and C for buff clay body. 5 1/2 in. H x 4 3/4 in. Diameter.
