American School, 19th century oil on canvas portrait of a young child attired in white gown with a blue sash. Verso of canvas stenciled "Prepared by Edward Dechaux, New York". Framed in the oval format in a period gilt wood frame having corner anthemion embellishments, textured surround and inner beaded edge. Sight – 17 1/2" H x 14 1/4" W. Framed – 24 3/4" H x 21 1/2" W. Provenance: The collection of internationally known ragtime pianist and historian Johnny Maddox, Gallatin, TN. CONDITION: Shedding to gilt frame with some surface cracks. A couple of areas of rubbing to canvas, light grime, overall light craquelure.
