Tennessee Folk Art Crazy Quilt, pieced and appliqued with elaborate embroidery. Centered by a block depicting a house with embroidered block underneath reading "Our Home" is surrounded by numerous other blocks with velvet appliqued animals including cow, sheep, deer, cats, and ducks, as well as a horse with embroidered caption "Lil Fane". Stitched motifs include flowers, figures, a horse and man, owl, and pelican. There are numerous stitch-initialed signatures, indicating the quilt may have been worked on by several stitchers, including the name "A.L. Fowler". Green velvet border with silk fringe. Quilt is not backed. 72" x 83". Provenance: descended in the Bigham Family of Marshall County, Tennessee. Circa 1880. Note: Census records show an A.L. Fowler living in Marshall County, Tennessee in 1880. Condition: Overall very good condition with a couple of areas of fraying to blocks and lost stitching (mostly in one corner near the AB signature), a very few scattered light stains visible on the light colored silk blocks and the green border, fringe is fragile and sheds easily.
