Sam Houston signed Tennessee land grant, dated Sept. 28, 1827, granting 25 acres in Jackson County (at the price of one cent per acre) to Jesse Kuykendall. Boldly signed by Sam Houston in the space for the Governor's signature. Interestingly, the document is dated September 28, 1827, two days before Houston officially began his term as Governor, and the printed portion of the document retains William Carroll's name as Governor. Houston's term lasted until 1829 when he resigned and moved to Texas; there, he later became Governor/President of Texas. Unframed. 15" x 12-1/2". Condition: Partial separations at fold lines with minor losses, fold across signature, discoloration/staining to central section, and overall toning/foxing.
