Dimitris Perdikidis (Greece, 1922-1989) mixed media oil and emulsion on canvas Abstract Expressionist painting, “Greek Dancers,” 1959. A seated musician plays a stringed instrument — likely a lyra — at lower left while three other figures dance. A sun shines in the upper left corner and a red ball or circle appears before the dancers. With passages of heavily applied emulsion that describe the sun and the area between the heads of the left and center dancers. Signed and dated, upper right. With Vanderbilt University Fine Arts Gallery inventory label affixed to backing. Housed in a modern ebonized wood frame. Sight: 54 5/8 in. H x 71 in. W. Framed: 55 5/8 in. H x 72 in. W.

CONDITION:
Overall very good condition. 2 inch x 2 1/2 inch filled puncture to center right and flaking to lower edge, largest area to lower right, 10 inch x 1 inch. Frame with white spatter along upper edge.
