Lot 406: Nicola Simbari Oil Painting, Harbor Scene

Nicola Simbari (Italian, 1907-2012), “Boats,” oil on canvas palette knife painting depicting ships clustered in a busy harbor on a clear, bright day. Incised signature, “Simbari,” lower right. Molded giltwood frame with carved sight edge and white painted wood mat. Stretcher: 32 in. W x 24 in. H. Frame: 39 in. W x 31 in. H. 

PROVENANCE:

Private Memphis collection. Purchased Florence Art Gallery, Italy, 1981. A packet of original sale documentation including receipt from the Galleria Fiorentina D’Arte, Italy, and certificate of authenticity with printed signature of the artist’s wife, Elfrida Simbari, is available to the winning bidder. 

CONDITION:

Overall very good condition. A couple of tiny inclusions and minor scratches to sky area. Frame also in very good condition with a couple of spots of minor wear.
