Clement Charles Henri Quinton (France, 1851-1920) oil on canvas rural genre scene painting depicting a figure preparing a group of horses for a journey, with two brown horses on a path in the foreground, and two white horses standing by a red farmhouse behind, with a landscape backdrop under a cloudy blue sky. Signed "Quinton" lower right. Housed in an ornate gilt and gesso frame with scrolling foliate decoration and acanthus leaf corners, with a nameplate, affixed lower center. Sight: 16 3/4" H x 25 1/4" W. Framed: 30 1/4" H x 38 1/2" W.
CONDITION: Painting has been lined. Overall heavy grime with area of loss to lower center, having some scattered retouching to the sky and light retouching to losses. Frame with natural wood shrinkage and minor areas of loss and gilt restoration.
