Four (4) 20th century desk accessories, including a President Franklin Delano Roosevelt lithophane desk lamp, clock, and Robot paperweights. 1st item: Lithophane desk lamp, comprised of a rectangular bone china light cover featuring a molded photo-image of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, 32nd president of the United States (1933-1945), on one side, and an image of Henry Morgenthau Jr., 52nd United States Secretary of the Treasury (1934-1945), on the other, loosely resting on a stepped wooden base with 120-watt bulb, socket, and cord attached. 9 1/4" H x 10 1/4" W x 8" D overall (including base). Note: This lamp was one of five produced at U.S. Bureau of Mines Ceramic Lab, Norris, TN, one of the first electric kilns in U.S. It was made as a gift to Mrs. Roosevelt on her visit to Norris Dam in 1936. The bone china was locally obtained. 2nd-3rd items: Two (2) metal advertising paperweights in the shape of mechanical figures or robots, including one (1) shoveling coal and mounted to a rectangular base with raised letters reading "THE IRON FIREMAN," and one (1) with a round wooden head with impressed letters reading "NAT," to his chest and "National Screw and Mfg. Co. Cleveland." to hexagonal base. Ranging in size from 4 1/2" H x 2" to 4" W. 4th item: Juvenia, Switzerland chrome desk clock having a copper tone and red face with white Arabic numerals and white hands, a smaller second face below. Maker's marks to back of face. 4" H x 3" W x 2" D. All items with museum accession numbers.
PROVENANCE: The collection of a Tennessee institution.
CONDITION: All items in overall good condition with general wear. 1st item: Lamp functional at time of inspection. Lower edge has a small, glazed indentation on the edge indicating an in-the-making flaw. Light cover does heat quickly. 2nd-3rd items: The Iron Fireman with removable head. 4th item: Clock needs a replacement battery.
