Oil on canvas three-quarter length portrait painting of a young nobleman attired in a blue doublet, white gloves, and a white ruff, holding a hat in one hand against a neutral background. Signed "Van Zandt" upper left corner, possibly for William Garrett Van Zandt (American/New York, 1857-1942). Housed in a giltwood frame with foliate and bead course decoration and black lacquer top edge. Sight: 21 3/4" H x 17 3/4" W. Framed: 29 1/2" H x 25 1/2" W. Late 19th century.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Edward Laudermilk, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Painting has undergone professional conservation including a fiberglass lining with polyester interleaf, retouching, and varnishing. Summary of conservation on label affixed en verso. Minor retouching visible under UV light inspection, craquelure throughout. Copy of conservation report available on request.
