Diminutive Tennessee Federal walnut slant front desk, poplar secondary. Vertical form with narrow proportions. Rectangular dovetailed top, slant-front opening to fitted interior, including three stacked center dovetailed drawers flanked by four dovetailed drawers over four shaped-top pigeon holes. Lower case with lopers to support writing surface and four graduated drawers having oval brasses and escutcheons; shaped serpentine skirt and returns, all over flaring french feet. 45" H x 36 1/4" W x 19 1/2" D. 1st Qtr. 19th century. Provenance: Private Middle Tennessee Collection. CONDITION: Right rear foot return replaced with possible later replaced rear foot, left rear foot repaired with one side return repaired or replaced. Older refinished surface. Drawer sides built up. 2nd drawer with replacement to back edge. Top left side of case with old patch. Overall general use wear including staining and light surface scratching. Lid escutcheon not attached but retained in the case. Note – drawers do not close flush to the case because of the insertion of later corner brackets to the back of the case.
