East Tennessee Walnut Sheraton Chest of Drawers with later matching Dressing Mirror, Wexler family provenance (Sullivan County). 1st item: Sheraton chest of drawers, walnut with poplar secondary. Plain two board top; two short drawers over three graduated long drawers, all with scratchbeaded edges, brass escutcheons and round wood pulls; the three lower drawers flanked by vertical incising on the stiles; four turned and tapered feet. Paneled sides and back. 46 1/4" H x 41 1/4" W x 21 1/4" D. Circa 1825. Note taped inside top right drawer of chest on letterhead of Francis McNairy Antiques, Savannah, Ga, states this chest descended in the Wexler family of Wexler's Bend, Tennessee, whose property was purchased by Eastman Kodak in the early 20th century, leading the family to move to Bristol, TN. The note goes on to say the chest descended to Dan Wexler, grandson of Edward Benjamin Wexler, and was sold when he retired to Savannah in 1998. 2nd item: Dressing mirror, custom made to match chest of drawers, walnut with poplar secondary. Rectangular mirror having a plain frame, flanked by plain stiles with urn finials, over two scratchbeaded drawers with round wood knobs, atop round bun feet. 23 1/2" H x 18 1/2" W x 7 7/8" D. Early to mid 20th century. CONDITION: 1st item: Shrinkage and slightly uneven separation to top of chest. Replaced drawer runners. Some losses to drawer tops and drawer runners, overall very good condition. 2nd item: Excellent condition.
