Sterling Strauser (Pennsylvania, 1907-1995) small oil on board painting of a black cat, likely Strauser's pet cat Jasper, a common subject in many of his works, portrayed with a yellow collar and green eyes against a multicolored background, rendered with a heavy impasto technique. Signed "Strauser" upper right corner. Dated "78" right edge. Float mounted in an Art Nouveau style gilt wood frame with a linen mat and gilt filet. Sight: 4 3/4" H x 4 3/4" W. Framed: 11" H x 11 3/4" W.
PROVENANCE: The collection of Jean Rippy, Franklin, Tennessee.
CONDITION: In overall very good condition. Frame with scattered gilt loss.
