Two Swiss gold and enamel Zarfs or cups, for the Turkish or Ottoman market, with hand painted porcelain inserts, each stamped with underglaze blue mark with eagle and cyrillic writing, similar to that used by Gardner Porcelain of Russia. The gold filigree and enamel frames feature decorative scalloped borders over floral vignettes, larger one is also adorned with seed pearls and figural leaves. Each raised on a tapering enameled stem and spreading, pierced enamel decorated foot. Each zarf also comes with its original protective silk-lined case. Small zarf – 2″H frame only, 2 3/4″ with insert. Large zarf – 2 3/8″ frame only, 2 3/4″ with cup. CONDITION: Each frame has some minor small areas of discoloration to filigree and about a half dozen tiny chips to enamel at upper rim. Smaller frame has a couple of miniscule chips to enameling on the foot. Floral vignettes are in excellent condition and there appear to be no breaks to the filigree or losses to seed pearls. Larger frame has some wear to green enamel on the leaves and some soft, clear sticky residue on the feet and interior of a putty used to hold it and the inner cup in place. This comes off, but we have not attempted to remove all of it to avoid risking damage. Smaller cup broken and poorly repaired; larger cup has significant hairline. Both cases have exterior wear and some staining to the interior linings, latch on larger case is broken.
