Fine pair of Louis XV style giltwood armchairs or fauteuils a la reines with tapestry-style needlepoint upholstery; each chair with a tall arched back over padded armrests and scroll-carved cyma-curved armrests; trapezoidal, serpentine front seat with Rococo style carved and scrolled skirt; four cabriole legs with carved shells and scrolled feet. Needlework upholstery is affixed with brass tacks and is older but not original. 44 1/2" H x 27" W x 22" D. French, late 19th/early 20th century. Provenance: private Nashville, TN collection. CONDITION: Regilt with later upholstery; minor scattered shrinkage and abrasions; minor wear to handrests; one chair's rear leg has several spots of wear to gilding on the inside of the leg; otherwise excellent condition.
