Large religious icon comprised of tempura and gilt paint on a panel depicting the winged Archangel Gabriel carrying a staff in one hand and an orb in the other, with a Russian inscription painted above. The central portion of the panel is recessed, emphasizing the image. 24 1/3" H x 15" W x 1 1/2" D. Russian, 18th century or earlier.
CONDITION: In good condition commensurate with age with expected patination, some losses to edges, craquelure throughout. Scattered areas of paint restoration visible under UV light inspection. Largest area 5" L in lower right corner.
