Royal Navy Bicorn hat with single bullion loop and makers mark for "W. E. Legge," housed in the original tole painted storage tin, together with a pair of epaulettes with bullion loops and maker's marks for "S. R. Gould & Son", also housed within the original storage tin. Both tins with engraved brass plaques bearing the owner's name "W. J. Shute". Epaulette tin with additional plaque reading "Matthews & Company Outfitters/Portsea". Box with epaulettes measures: 6 1/4" H x 9 1/8" W x 6 1/8" D. Hat tin measures: 9" H x 18 1/2" W x 7 3/4" D. All items 19th century. Provenance: Brad Swanson Collection, Abingdon, VA. CONDITION: Hat overall general wear, some seperation to bullion loop. Epaulettes overall good condition with general wear.
