Two (2) Mexican Folk Art retablos depicting saints, painted on tin. 1st item: Painting depicting Saint Christopher carrying the Christ child on his shoulder while crossing a river and holding a palm staff. Housed in a punched tin frame shadowbox with decorative wings and an arched top having foliate designs, under glass. 21 3/4" H x 16 1/4" W x 2" D. Early-Mid 19th century. 2nd item: Portrait painting depicting Saint Francis of Paola wearing a hooded garment, holding a staff and rosary, and the word "Caridad" (charity) in the upper right corner. Set against a blue background. Late 19th/Early 20th century. 14" H x 10" W.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of James Lewis, Carthage, Tennessee.
CONDITION: 1st item: Overall scattered oxidation and fleabite losses commensurate with age, light surface scratching. Frame with previous repair and warping. 2nd item: Overall very good condition with some bending to lower edge, light scattered surface wear and losses.
