Carlo Caruson (Italian, fl. late 19th century) signed and dated bust-length portrait miniature in watercolor depicting a woman with dark hair and white headgear, in three-fourths view and facing left. Signed and dated "C. Caruson. Roma. 1884" in lower left. Housed under glass in a leather covered wooden case with black felt mat and internal stand. Portrait (oval): 4" H x 3 1/4" W. Case: 1" H" x 5 1/8" W x 6 1/4" D.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Pia Stratton, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Painting is in excellent condition. Minute inclusions beneath glass. Case is functional but heavily worn with missing leather on top, exposed wood along internal edge of lid, and small chip to edge of glass.
