Pair of Venetian-style carved wood and plaster-coated gilt sconces, each in the form of an outstretched cuffed hand holding a scrolling candle arm topped with acanthus leaf molded bobeches and white candle sleeves. Both have a matching pair of tole shades with hand-painted floral and cross-hatching patterns. Each 23" H x 13" W x 4" D. Shades each: 4 1/2" H x 5 1/2" Dia. Late 19th/early 20th century.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Pia Stratton, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Some surface wear to gilt paint on knuckles of both hands and sleeves. Loss to one sleeve. Some areas of paint restoration.
